Welcome to Reception Elm class!

The teachers in our room are Mrs Naik and Mrs Millington.

The teaching assistants are Mrs Dubique and Miss Gooch.

We are very proud of our  classroom and outdoor area.  We hope you will come and spend some time with us during our regular Stay and Play sessions.  Come and see our displays in a morning when you bring your child to school.  We love celebrating the children's achievements by placing their work around the classroom.

We have a lot of fun in Reception learning through play.  We hope we develop a love of learning which stays with your child for their entire school experience.

Please look at our class pages which will give you more information about the Early Years curriculum and the activities we do.

Class Information

Outdoor Play - We spend a lot of time outside and your child will need a spare change of clothes in school as we play in water and our mud kitchen.  We provide waterproofs but children can still become muddy and wet.

Warm Clothing - Please ensure your child has a suitable coat and footwear for the Autumn weather.  All children will need a labelled hat when the weather starts to become cold.

PE - PE is on a Thursday and every child needs a complete PE kit in school which will be sent home every half term.  If it needs washing sooner than this we will send it home to you.

Our Class Timetable:

Letters and Sounds - every day we practice learning to recognise letters and sounds.  The children are encouraged to use the skills all day long to ensure they are developing their reading and writing skills.

Maths Time - Each day we practice our Mathematics skills and we have a lot of fun paying games which enhance our skills.

Literacy Skills - We read a book each day and develop our talking skills by discussing it in talk partners and as a whole class.  We then write every day, focusing on developing our spelling and handwriting skills.

This term:

We are having fun through our Holidays topic.  We have been reading stories and learning about the World through the adventures of Barnaby Bear.

Understanding of the World

We are going to be learning about several different countries and will be making food, creating animal puppets, visiting a travel agents and acting out booking a holiday.

Reading time

We will be using all of our high frequency words and phonic knowledge to read facts about different holidays.

Writing time

We will be filling out a variety of holiday booking forms, holiday packing checklists and fact sheets about each country.

Maths time

We will be focusing on problem solving.  Learning how to use our doubling, halving and sharing skills to solve a problem.

We are trying to raise standards in reading in our class and have been focusing on learning to recognise as many words as possible. We will be including 2 new sets for homework each week.  If the children practice repeating them after you daily, they will learn them and they will make more progress.
