Welcome to Meadowside Designated Provision

‘Giant Redwood Class’

Teachers: Mr Clay, Mrs Savage and Miss Vernon

Giant Redwood is the Key Stage 2 designated provision that provides a nurturing environment, in which we make sure that all of the children grow in confidence and receive everything that they need to make progress to achieve their potential. Whilst we follow a book based curriculum, we are able to also provide an individualised curriculum focussing on each of their needs.

So far this year...

We have had a brilliant first term looking at 'The Incredible Book Eating Boy' and 'The Day the Crayons Quit', two amazing picture books by Oliver Jeffers (Our favourite author/illustrator this term!) It has been brilliant to watch the children take on new challenges and we are seeing some really good progress in all subjects.Last half term we had all sort of fun with a book called Wanted, about Ralfy Rabbit. We had great fun reading Percy the Park Keeper and learning skills around this. Last half term we created a great video of to advertise our classes and learnt lots around the book Spinderella

This half term...

We will be looking at transport, different types of vehicles and how they move - which includes a few fabulous trips, the first one being to Manchester Museum of Science and Industry.  Here is our topic overview of our work for this half term:

We will be continuing with "Fresh Start" to help us secure our knoweldge and application of phonics along side our 'normal' English lessons.

Reminders

  • PE is on a Tuesday and Friday, if you bring your PE kit in, you can leave it in school and it will always be there when you need it (we will send it home every half term holiday and more frequently if needed)
  • Swimming is every Thursday during the Autumn term
  • You need your reading book in school every day. Reading at home is one of the most important things you can do to support your child with their learning. Try to read with them for 10 minutes every day, asking them questions about what they have read to help them with their comprehension skills. We will get them to change their books as often as we feel it is needed. Reading diaries will be checked daily, please feel free to communicate with us via these diaries.
  • Homework will come out on a Friday, it can be returned when it is completed
