Mrs Ward

Y4 Class Teacher

Welcome to Year 4 Oak

Our class is full of amazing learners who are supported by dedicated , hard working teachers. We aim to help each pupil develop a love of learning, make great progress and have a lot of fun! Our key class values are positivity and respect. We truly believe that each and every one of our class is going to achieve wonderful things this year!

Summer Half Term 2

We have got to our final half term in Year 4. The year has flown by. This half term we will be basing our learning around Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. Our English work will be focusing on the book Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo. We will be travelling back in time to see if our hero Beowulf destroys the monster Gendell. On our journey we will be writing invitations, stories, descriptions and lots more! We will be putting into practice all of the writing techniques we have learned throughout the year to make this our best writing ever!

In history we will be studying Anglo-Saxons and vikings and the impact they had on Britain. As part of this, we will be taking part in a fantastic Anglo-Saxon day at Tatton Park on Tuesday 27th June. Please make sure you get your trip letters signed and returned to school a.s.a.p.! In science we will be improving our scientific enquiry skills by carrying out investigations and in Maths we will be covering geometry, shape, mass and measures.

  • PE for Year 4 Oak is on a Tuesday  so please ensure that your child has a full kit with them on this day (black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, white t-shirt and black pumps or trainers).
  • Homework activities are set on a Friday - to be returned the following Wednesday. This will include spellings to learn.
  • Reading books will be changed on a Monday. Try to make reading at home a priority and please make sure that your child has their reading book and diary in school every day!

How can you help at home?

Read, read, read! Please encourage your child to read as much as possible at home and spend time reading to them. You should all have logins for reading plus and reading eggs. These are a great online tool to support reading at home.

You can also help by supporting your child in learning their times tables. Go onto mathletics at home. By the end of year 4 children should know all times tables up to 12x12. Make it as fun as possible! There are lots of games on the internet. Why not try  http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button or http://www.mad4maths.com?

If you have any questions do come and have a chat. We look forward to working with you!
